Radiculopathy refers to a condition where a nerve in the spine is compressed or irritated, leading to pain, numbness, or weakness along the affected nerve's pathway. Radiculopathy can occur in any region of the spine, including the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar areas, though it's most common in the neck (cervical radiculopathy) or lower back (lumbar radiculopathy).
Common symptoms of radiculopathy include:
- Pain radiating down the arm or leg
- Numbness or tingling sensations
- Muscle weakness or difficulty performing daily tasks
Sciatica and radiculopathy can present very similarly, and appropriate testing with NCV/EMG is needed to distinguish between the two and guide therapy in the right direction.
Our experienced neurologist at CNS provides a thorough evaluation, including physical exams and imaging tests, to determine the source of nerve compression and recommend effective treatments to reduce pain and restore function.
